Paris hosted the 21th session of the Conference of Parties

Between November 30 to December 11, Paris hosted the 21th session of the Conference of Parties (COP 21) to the Convention United Nations Framework on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 12th session of the Meeting of the Parties to oranges ol Kyoto (COP 11).

The main elements of the new agreement in Paris:

  • Long-term goal: governments agreed to keep global average temperature increase well below 2 ° C above pre and continue efforts to limit to 1.5 ° C

  • Contributions: before and during the Paris Conference, countries have introduced comprehensive national action plans on climate to reduce their emissions

  • Ambition: governments agreed that every five years, submit their contributions to set more ambitious goals

  • Transparency: they have also agreed to inform each other and the public about the outcome of their efforts to achieve the goals that they have proposed to ensure transparency and oversight

  • Solidarity: EU and other developed countries will continue to provide funding to combat climate change, to support developing countries to reduce emissions, but also to strengthen their resilience to climate change
